Porter Road Butcher’s One-of-a-Kind Counter
Porter Road Butcher is a new business coming to East Nashville early this winter. We had the privilege of designing and building the focal piece of the new space, this here counter. It’s nearly 16 feet long with a solid piece of John Boos maple butcher block for the top of it.
In order to be thrifty as well as creative, we used leftover pieces of their oak flooring for the face of the counter, stained it mahogany and surrounded it by maple plywood.
We also built a shorter drawbridge counter at 36 inches in order for the counter to be up to code and allow for wheelchair access. It turned out quite nicely, especially with that look of metal on wood.
We didn’t skimp on the employee side either. For the boxes we used some mahogany colored MDF panels that the butchers found, then played on the contrast with maple shelves and metal grommets.
I think we found an interesting way of working with their budget and materials to create a truly unique piece. And for those of you who don’t know, Porter Road Butcher will be a whole animal butcher shop, using only the highest quality, humanely raised, local animals. Their shop will also feature The Bloomy Rind Artisan Cheese, local produce, Provence bread and Hatcher Dairy. It’s going to be one-stop shopping for all things delicious. Come check it out when they open in December!
By the way, we have a new Facebook page for Space Lift, so check it out and like us if you feel so inclined.
